Massimiliano Cristofanilli, PhD
Assistant Research Scientist
No specific treatment exists for patients with MS who fail to respond to conventional immunosuppressive and immunomodulating modalities. Furthermore, no method is available for regeneration of existing defects in the central nervous system. In this scenario, stem cell therapy stands out as the most rational approach for neurological regeneration. The objective of Dr. Cristofanilli work is to develop the use of oligodendroglial precursor cells derived from embryonic stem cells as a therapy in MS.
Dr. Cristofanilli received his PhD in Neuroscience from University of Rome "La Sapienza". Prior to joining the Center, he was a research associate in the Keck Center for Collaborative Neuroscience at Rutgers University(NJ) from 2006-2008, and a postdoctoral fellow at NYU School of Medicine from 2005-2006 and at SUNY Down State Medical Center (NY) from 2003-2005
